Postdoctoral position

Postdoctoral position avaiable at the Department of Medical Biotechnology, Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology, Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. The application deadline is February 17, 2022.

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join the project entitled “Mechanistic links between psoriasis and cardiovascular complications: investigation on inflammation induced alterations in induced pluripotent stem cells-derived endothelial cells, cardiomyocytes and cardiac organoids” led by Dr. Monika Biniecka. The project is supported by NCN funding (Sonata Bis, project no. 2018/30/E/NZ5/0048).

About the project
The overall goal of this proposal is to determine the mechanism by which cutaneous inflammation promotes cardiovascular disease (CVD) in psoriasis (Ps). This project proposes a truly translational, benchto-bedside approach building on the strength of the human and murine Ps model and a recent progress in generating human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC). By reprogramming skin fibroblast cells and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) into iPSC and their differentiation, we will establish a unique source of personalized functional iPSC-derived endothelial cells (EC) and iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes (CM). To capture EC-CM interactions in vitro, we will design a complex 3D cardiac microtissues (MT-CMEC) that may truly represent in vivo cardiac environment.

About your position and the project
You will be responsible for the generation and characterization of the 3D cardiac microtissues (MT-CMEC) as well us animal experiments. Financial support for this position is available for up to three years (120 000 PLN/year gross gross). Start date is negotiable, but the position is immediately available. The requirements

  • PhD degree* awarded in life science field awarded on or after 2016**;
  • Scientific achievements documented by publications in international journals;
  • Fluent knowledge of cell culture methods;
  • Experience in other techniques of molecular biology;
  • Experience in animal research;
  • Good command of spoken and written English.

How to apply?
Interested candidates should send: a cover letter discussing their research experience, a detailed CV, and the contacts details for two referees as a single pdf file to: monika.biniecka@uj.edu.pl
