Postdoctoral position at the Department of Cell Biophysics

Postdoctoral position available at the Department of Cell Biophysics. The application deadline is June 10, 2022.

A postdoctoral position is open for a highly motivated person with experience in cell biology and/or biophysics, to join our research group at the Department of Cell Biophysics, Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology, Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland.

The successful candidate will participate in a project which is focused on mechanisms of DNA damage induction and repair in mammalian oocytes and somatic cells. Cell biology and biophysical techniques will be used, including fluorescence confocal and super-resolution imaging, and various methods of detection of DNA damage and repair.

The overall goal of the proposal is to improve our understanding of the mechanisms behind a lower mutation rate of the female germline in comparison with somatic cells. The planned research involves direct measurements the numbers of endogenous single-strand DNA breaks  (sSTRIDE technique, Nucl. Acids Res. 48(3), 2020, p. e14), measurements and imaging of localisation of critical SSB repair factors in oocytes and somatic cells, assessing the capacity of oocytes and zygotes to repair SSBs, and measurements of abundance of repair components and assessing their role in conferring resistance to DNA damage.
